The United States authorizes the import of Jalisco avocado

Agricultural authorities in the United States have already given the green light to import Hass avocado from the state of Jalisco, in certified orchards for the harvest season that will begin in April 2022.
"It will have a positive impact on the families that are dedicated to the production of this fruit in Mexico and will benefit all those who participate in the production chain, in addition to generating foreign exchange for our country," reported the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Secretary of Agriculture of the United States gave the report that only avocado produced in certified orchards and that it is verifiable that it is a pest-free product can be exported.
This agreement, signed by the National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), establishes that only avocados that are free of quarantine pests known as avocado borers may be exported.
Once this plan has started, exports will continue with the State of Mexico and Nayarit, which are the main avocado producers nationwide, after Michoacán.
Vegan avocados from certified orchards that are produced and packaged under this Work Plan may be exported to the 50 entities of the United States and also to Puerto Rico.
As we know, Mexico is the main producer of avocado in the world, with a volume that in 2020 exceeded 2.3 million tons, which means 32% of the world production of this fruit.
The main producing state is Michoacán, with more than 1.8 million tons, followed by: Jalisco, with 248 thousand tons; State of Mexico, with more than 118 thousand tons, and Nayarit, which produces almost 70 thousand tons a year.
Jalisco already exports avocado to 29 nations, among which Canada, Japan, in addition to the European Union stand out, however, the US market will undoubtedly open up an important economic spillover to this State.
